🔫 SWEDEN STUNNED — 16-YEAR-OLD HELD AFTER TRIPLE SALON SHOOTING IN UPSALA, FEARS OF GANG TIES GROW
Sweden is reeling after a 16-year-old suspect was arrested in connection with a deadly triple shooting at a hair salon in central Uppsala, a city just 70km north of Stockholm. The shooting, which left three people dead, is being described as “extremely serious” by national authorities. ⚠️
Police say the teen is being held under the country’s highest level of suspicion. The event — believed to be an isolated incident for now — unfolded at Vaksala Square on April 29, shaking the city during Walpurgis Night, a major Swedish spring celebration. 🎡
According to local reports, multiple shots were fired, sending people fleeing for cover. Witnesses described seeing an individual fleeing on an electric scooter, a method previously linked to gang-related hit-and-run attacks in Sweden. Authorities are not yet confirming a motive but say the possibility of gang ties is being “intensively” explored.

Police say mobile phones and devices from the scene are now under forensic review, and door-to-door witness interviews continue. Prosecutors also noted that court documents remain heavily redacted due to the suspect’s young age.
🧠 A worrying pattern
This isn’t an isolated concern. The Uppsala shooting comes just months after Sweden’s deadliest modern mass shooting in Örebro, where 10 were killed in a classroom. Together, these events paint a picture of a changing threat landscape in one of Europe’s historically safest nations.
Experts say the new generation of violent youth — some barely in their teens — reflects deeper failures in integration, digital recruitment by gangs, and lack of early intervention.
The Swedish government has responded by granting sweeping new powers to police, and is actively working to tighten firearm laws.
Justice Minister Gunnar Strömmer called the attack a “brutal act of violence,” adding:
“That it happened in the heart of our city, during one of our oldest traditions, makes it even more disturbing.”
